FOUL!

THIS SUNDAY, MARCH 9, 2008

8:00, 9:15 & 10:45

Bruce preaching:

FOUL!

Inspired by Upward Basketball & The Louvre.

Yes, it’s the adverse time-change Sunday, springing forward so that the 8:00 start will feel like 7:00. And, yes, Nancy and forty-some women will be away at a retreat. This is all true. BUT. The Youth Praise Band will be with us at 9:15 & 10:45. The Upward Basketball Cheerleaders will also grace the two later services. We’ll give all three services an “Upward” feel, including tunnel music and player introductions. We are expecting guests in the 10:45 hour, as we’ve invited all of our Upward Families to join us for worship in advance of their post-season celebration, which follows the service, and I know we’ll welcome them in a spirit of Radical Hospitality. The McDonalds on 132nd Street has a sign out promising they’re open at 5:00 every morning now, so guys, if your wife is away at the retreat and you don’t want to fix breakfast for yourself and/or the kids, you can let Ronald McDonald do the work.

Sunday, March 16 is PALM SUNDAY. Nancy is preaching: Famous Last Words.

Tuesday, March 18 is our DAY OF PRAYER FOR SAN ANDRES

(When some of us were in Nicaragua last month, the people of namesake community, San Andres, wanted us to know they had set aside the Tuesday of Holy Week as a day of prayer for St. Andrew’s in Omaha. It seems right and good that we should return the favor.)

STACEY F. writes: A big thanks to all who attended the "Chili Feed Benefit" for the Hueftle Family and all who donated the wonderful baskets! Our St. Andrew's family donated 15 baskets/items and the silent auction was a big success! It was great to see so many familiar faces at the benefit, thank you all! The Bethany Lutheran Preschool is still calculating final numbers, preliminary figures show $10,500 was raised and will go to the Hueftle family. Please continue to pray for strength and healing for Gil, Lori and Rachael.

Lynette S.sent this to me last fall. It’s sung to the tune of the hymn God Of Grace And God Of Glory--though I’m not sure the last line works with the song as I know it.

God of sleep and God of slumber

Help us not be late we ask

Changing clocks one forward number

May we not forget this task

Choir directors, preachers, teachers

All will bless your holy name

If to Sunday church on time we came

Words, Dean McIntyre, 1995

Music, John Hughes, 1907

Romans 5:12-14

Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death came through sin, and so death spread to all because all have sinned—sin was indeed in the world before the law, but sin is not reckoned where there is no law. Yet death exercised dominion from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sins were not like the transgression of Adam, who is type of the one who was to come.
