I see the new biography, “EINSTEIN” is at the top of the best-seller list. I’ve passed through quantum particles and General Relativity and am just now to “spooky action at a distance,” putting me about 75 pages from the end. The neat thing about “EINSTEIN” is that since hardly anyone understands theoretical physics to begin with, you can skim some of this material without guilt and still enjoy a wonderful written story of a fascinating, complex life. (Do spend some time, though, with Einstein’s “thought pictures,” which makes some of the ideas at least semi-accessible to the non-scientist.) The profound religious implications of Einstein’s work will surely show up in a sermon between now and the end of the year.

NOTE FROM NANCY – JUST WANTED TO LET YOUTH PARENTS KNOW THAT I HAVE CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT MOVING CONFIRMATION TO SIXTH GRADE. I WOULD LIKE TO DO THIS BUT I WOULD HAVE TO PLAY “CATCH-UP” FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS BY TEACHING CONFIRMATION TO TWO CLASSES AT THE SAME TIME. WE ARE SO BLESSED TO HAVE SO MANY YOUTH THAT A CLASS LIKE THAT WOULD SIMPLY BE TOO LARGE – AND ALSO BECAUSE WE REALLY DON’T HAVE A ROOM TO ACCOMMODATE ALL THOSE KIDS IN THE WAY I WOULD LIKE. SO WE’LL KEEP CONFIRMATION AT THE EIGHTH GRADE FOR NOW. THE CLASS THIS YEAR WAS JUST DELIGHTFUL AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT YEAR. THANKS TO THE MENTORS AND PARENTS AND TO BOB AND BRUCE FOR THEIR HELP!

James 3:5-10
How great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire! And the tongue is a fire. The tongue is placed among our members as a world of iniquity; it stains the whole body, sets on fire the cycle of nature, and is itself set on fire by hell. For every species of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by the human species, but no one can tame the tongue—a restless evil full of deadly poison. With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse those who are made from the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters this ought not to be so.
