Steppin' Up

THIS SUNDAY, August 26, IS STEPPIN UP SUNDAY
Nancy Davis preaching: “JONAH WAS A MUGGLE”

CHILDREN’S DIRECTOR NETTA P. writes:
Special Thanks to all Sunday School Teachers/Helpers who are “Stepping Up” to lead our Children closer to Jesus this fall. This truly has been the best year, in my ministry at St. Andrew’s, in terms of people coming willingly to help in Children’s Ministries!! We have doubled our number of male leaders in the classrooms! This is always an excellent model for our young boys! We are ready to start on Steppin’ Up Sunday with 60 leaders in place and another 12 or so to come and join the Children’s Ministry team for Sunday School! Please say a prayer of thanks and encouragement that they will also grow spiritually on their adventure with Kids!

BOB D. writes: I need all parents of youth grades 6th through 12th to meet me in the youth room this Sunday August 26 at 12:30pm. We will have a brief meeting about this years youth calendar. I will also have a very important parent volunteer sign up sheet for various activities.

This has been quite a week. There’s been all the normal church stuff, of course, including the endless detail that comes with leading a large volunteer organization. To say that focus has been difficult would be an understatement.
I have found myself, at times, wanting to shout in joy, “This is all well and good, but don’t you know Madeline has been born?” There’s a Christmas sermon in that thought.

TRIVIA NIGHT: Our next TRIVIA NIGHT is scheduled for Friday evening, September 14. We’ll start at 7:00. Child care will be offered. Here’s the drill: Participants will be divided into teams of approximately eight persons, gathered around tables in the Family Life Center. Bruce and Nancy will ask 100 questions in groupings of ten questions each. Each table will come up with a single answer to each question, record the answer. After each group of ten questions, the answer sheets will be gathered, and the scores will be tabulated and posted. Bruce and Nancy PROMISE to be intentional about coming up with multi-generational questions. It’s a cheap event, too: $5 in advance, $10 at the door. You even get snacks, and there are door prizes. Who could ask for anything more? Sign ups continue this Sunday. Look for the table in the Rotunda.

PASTOR CHARLOTTE asks: Prayers for Mason P., who is going through a difficult time.

Job 38:1-7, “Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind: ‘Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up your loins like a man, I will question you, and you shall declare to me. Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone when the morning stars sang together and all the heavenly beings shouted for joy?”
