The 11th is a PIZZA WITH THE PASTORS Sunday, 5:00-6:30. PWP is designed for persons moving toward membership at St. Andrew’s. E-mail or sign up in the Rotunda Sunday morning, so we’ll know how much pizza to order.

Nancy got home around 1:00 this afternoon, reporting the Women’s Retreat was a big success—no surprise there. We’ll be hearing from the Women’s Retreat Chorus in the 9:15 & 10:45 services this coming Sunday. With her gone, I wound up doing most all the talking this morning. It’s funny the difference that makes. I knew I was getting tired in the third service; when “talents and pounds” came out “palents and tounds,” I feared the train was running off the track entirely.

This is a rare Sunday evening A-Mail. I leave tomorrow morning for Nicaragua, returning on Thursday. Also making the trip are Adrian A., John A., Mark R. and Mark VK. Then Nancy and I are driving to Lawrence, Kansas, on Friday (parenting stuff), returning on Saturday, so I’m not going to be around much this week.

This flight is Omaha to Houston to Managua. First time I went to Nicaragua, nine years ago, I flew out of Springfield, Missouri, with stops in Houston, Guatemala City, and San Salvador before getting to Nicaragua’s capital. Three years ago, it was Springfield to Miami to Managua, which would have been fine, except there wasn’t a gate open in Miami, so the plane sat on the tarmac for an hour and I wound up spending the night in Miami, which sounds more exotic than it turned out to be. You know you’re getting older when you can’t get excited about a free evening in Miami.

Matthew 12:43-45
“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it wanders through waterless regions looking for a resting place, but finds none. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ When it comes, it finds it empty, swept, and put
in order. Then it goes and brings along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and live there; and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So will it be also with this evil generation.”
